All English department courses are aligned with the California
State Standards for the Language Arts and meet the UC/CSU
"B" requirements for English, except as noted. Summer reading
is required as preparation for each course. Students in
English courses will be required to purchase paperback books
during the year.

All Fine Arts department courses are aligned with the California
State Standards for Fine Arts and meet the UC/CSU "F" requirements
for fine arts, except as noted.

All Foreign Language department courses are aligned with
the California State Standards for Foreign Language and
meet the UC/CSU "E" requirements for language other than
English, except as noted.

All Math department courses are aligned with the California
State Standards for Math and meet the UC/CSU "C" requirements
for math, except as noted.

St. Matthias High School competes as a member of the California
Interscholastic Federation, Southern Section. As a Catholic
school, it is also a member of the Catholic Athletic Association
(CAA).

The Religion courses offer an opportunity for students to
master the doctrinal facts of the Catholic faith. As part
of the ESLR requirements for graduation, all students take
the Facts of our Faith Test during their freshman year and
have opportunities to retake the test during subsequent
years.

Science department courses are aligned with the California
State Standards for Science and meet the UC/CSU "D" requirements
for sciences, except as noted.

The Social Studies department
endeavors to foster in each
student an understanding of the past, appreciation of
the present and the skills with which to meet the challenges
of the future. Specifically, the courses offered by the
department stress geographic knowledge, appreciation of
cultural diversity, the importance of an informed and
active citizenry in a democratic society, and the importance
of history as a means of understanding the world of today.

The computer courses at St. Matthias serve to empower young
women with the necessary skills, attitudes, and knowledge
to help them, succeed in the global marketplace.
