All Fine Arts department courses are aligned with the
California State Standards for Fine Arts and meet the
UC/CSU "F" requirements for fine arts, except as noted.
GRAPHIC ARTS:
Design and Computer Graphics 11, 12
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Completion and passing grade in Computers
I, or a score of 70 or better on the proficiency exam.
This course is a study in the concept of design and beginning
computer graphics. As it is important to know the basic
elements of art, the principles of design and the skills
of drawing, students will begin with projects off the
computer. Students will then create computer-generated
projects. They will develop an appreciation of traditional
artistic expression as well as an understanding of the
role of contemporary media as a verbal and visual means
of communication in today's society. There is a $15 lab
fee for this course payable to the Business office by
Fall 2007.
ART:
Student Art Galleries
Multicultural Art 9, 10, 11, 12
10 Credits
This is an introductory level class in which students
will explore the arts and crafts of cultures throughout
the world, gaming and awareness of the historical and
aesthetic values of a variety of art works. Students will
create projects that include paper crafts, weaving, stitchery,
tie dye, doll making, macrame and printmaking There is
a $15 lab fee for this course payable to the Business
office by Fall 2007. Students may be asked to purchase
a few additional supplies.
Art I: Beginning Drawing. Painting and Composition
9, 10, 11, 12

This is a basic art class for students who want to develop
their artistic skills and who would be interested in taking
more advanced classes. The class covers the historical,
cultural, and aesthetic aspects of art along with studio
techniques. Students must purchase basic supplies including
pencils, erasers, glue, scissors and markers. There is
a $30 lab fee for this course payable to the Business
office by Fall 2007.
Art II: Advanced Drawing and Painting 10, 11,

Prerequisite: Completion and passing grade in Art
I and signature of the instructor. Students will
study the historical, cultural, and aesthetic aspects
of art and learn advanced art techniques The focus will
be on art trends from the beginning of art to Impressionism.
There is a $30 lab fee for paints and pastels due by the
end of the second week of school. This class is held during
"0" period.
Art III: Art Concepts 11, 12
10 Credits
Prerequisite: Completion and passing grade in Art
II and signature of the instructor. Students will
study modem and post-modem art theories and create works
that make a personal statement There is a $25 lab fee
for this course payable to the Business Office by Fall
2007. This class is held during 0 period.
Art IV 12

Credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art III and
signature of instructor.
This course enables students to complete four years of
art without fulfilling the requirements of AP Art IV -
Portfolio. Students will do advanced art projects culminating
in art pieces that show a focus - creating a personal
portfolio and doing an art show. Students will be expected
purchase necessary supplies. This class meets 0 Period.
AP Art IV: Portfolio 12
10 Credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art III and
signature of the instructor.
Students will create art pieces of personal expression
mat will culminate with a student art show Students will
be expected to purchase necessary supplies. Students follow
the guidelines of the Advanced Placement Portfolios, or
they will design their own curriculum that must include
a proposal, timelines research journals and a mission
statement along with projects. This course may be taken
as an Independent Study with meeting times to be determined
with the instructor. Students who take this class are
required to take the AP exam.
DRAMA:
Drama/Theatre Tech 9, 10, 11, 12

Credits
This course includes theatre games, pantomime, improvisation,
basic acting techniques theatre history drama analysis,
and elements of speech. Students will also learn the technical
aspects of theatre and attend a live play.
Drama II 11, 12
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Application, teacher recommendation,
department approval/placement.
This is an accelerated course that features, within the
framework of a survey of classic British literature, an
emphasis on college-level analytical writing for students
who thrive in a challenging academic environment. Preparation
in writing the university application essay will be offered,
as well as systematic vocabulary expansion.
Acting Techniques/Play Production 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Approval by the instructor based on
audition
Students who are selected for an onstage role in a school
play will receive *2.5 credit for participation in Acting
Techniques (fall) and 5 credits for participation in Play
Production (spring). Rehearsals are after school and on
weekends. All performers must complete a character analysis.
Girls' Chorus 9, 10, 11, 12
10 Credits
Prerequisite: Approval by the instructor.
This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of
music: reading, notation, rhythm, pitches, ear training
and understanding of historical, cultural, and aesthetic
value. Emphasis is placed on voice production. Performance
in the two major evening concerts of the year is mandatory.
Girls' Ensemble 10, 11, 12
10 Credits
Prerequisite: Approval by the instructor based on
audition.
This is an in-depth study of music fundamentals continuing
from and building on what was learned in Girls' Chorus.
It meets daily at "0" period. A wide spectrum of music
is studied and performed in as many as five concerts a
year. Performance in major concerts is mandatory. If a
student signs up for this course it is expected that she
will remain in the course for the entire year.
Canticum Novum 10, 11, 12
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Approval by the department based on
audition and concurrent enrollment in Girls' Ensemble.
This is a performance-based group. It meets during lunch
hours and after school and performs at many community
and school functions. Performance in all concerts is mandatory.
Victorian Bells 9, 10
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Approval by the instructor based on
audition.
This introductory hand bell class meets during lunch hours.
It aims to prepare students for the regularly scheduled
Laudate Ringers class. This group performs at the two
regularly scheduled annual evening concerts.
Laudate Ringers 10, 11, 12
10 Credits
Prerequisite: Approval by the instructor based on
audition.
This class is an in-depth study of music fundamentals
through the ringing of hand bells. Study includes music
theory analysis, performance techniques, and the historical/cultural
context and aesthetic value of the music. Students participate
in many school and community projects. Performance in
all concerts is mandatory.
